Jim Murray, world renowed irish Guitarist has just joined the tutors for Ceol Aneas. Jim has played with Sharon Shannon, Seamus Begley and many other top Irish Music performers. He will compliment Gerry Paul and provide world class guitar tuition.

What is Ceol Aneas?

Ceol Aneas (Ke-ol an-ass) is New Zealand's Irish music festival, based in Nelson, New Zealand. It is one of Australasia's major Irish music gatherings, attracting, musicians and traditional Irish music lovers from around New Zealand and overseas. 2009 is our tenth anniversary and to celebrate we have a extra special guest line up.

The Ceol Aneas 2009 programme features concerts, a ceili dance, instrumental tuition, meet the artist workshops and numerous ‘sessions' around Nelson, running on into the small hours.

Festival Guests

Special guests from Ireland are Grada, one of the worlds leading tradtional Irish music bands. They have a strong New Zealand connection with two of their members coming from Wellington. The band is; Gerry Paul (guitar), David Doocey (fiddle), Stephen Doherty (flute), Nicola Joyce (vocals) and Andy Laking (Bass). Grada will be giving a concert on Friday the 29th of May at the Nelson School of Music (see the events programme for more details).

Guests from Australia, Adrian Barker (fiddle) and John Meredith (flute) will be joined by New Zealand guests, Duncan Davidson (accordion) and Alex Davidson (whistle)

All of these musicians will feature in the Sunday evening concert and also in sessions around Nelson (see the events programme for more details).
